Early Summer Nature Observation Walk at the Ikegahara Wetlands
On Saturday 5th July, we a nature walk at the Ikegahara Wetlands in Heisenji, Katsuyama.
In the early summer at Ikegahara Wetlands we could see rare plants, such as the mizuchidori (a flower from orchid family) and mōsengoke (round-leaved sundew), as well as a akaharaimori (Japanese fire-bellied newt).
The participants got to see various plants and animals native to the Ikegahara area, as well as the chance to look at some of them under a microscope.
With an expert there to explain in detail, everyone became more enthusiastic when using the microscope. After looking around the Ikegahara Wetlands, we continued to the Oyadani Hakusan Shrine where we could see the giant boulders that came from an avalanche on Mt. Kyogatake.
Quite a few elementary school students took part this time, and they seemed to enjoy themselves, judging by how proactive they were in asking questions.
This Nature Observation Walk was an activity organised by the Fun Hands-on Learning Promotion Group, and there are still 3 more activities remaining this fiscal year.
To find out more, be sure to check the Dinosaur Town Promotion Section of the Future Planning Division on the Katusyama City website.
